100k Lives CampaigneOn October 3, 2005 nearly 500 doctors, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, hospital executives and healthcare quality professionals celebrated the strides being made in our region to ensure that all patients get the best healthcare possiblle

MPSC ICU Safety Culture Collaborative
In 9 months – 38 dedicated ICU teams working with the Maryland Patient Safety Center ICU Culture Collaborative reduced pneumonias associated with ventilators by nearly 20%.   Teams working on reducing dangerous hospital acquired blood stream infections cut them by 36%.   These teams shared their successes, challenges and great ideas .

CareFirst 100K Lives and Beyond – Focus ICU
As a result of the generous support of CareFirst, the largest private healthcare payer in the Mid- Atlantic, many of these ICU teams will be continuing their journey, along with new teams from the District of Columbia, Delaware and Northern Virginia as participants in the CareFirst/Delmarva 100 K Lives and Beyond Collaborative.   Together these ICU teams will work to reach their goal of eliminating preventable hospital acquired infections in the ICU.

CareFirst 100K Lives and Beyond – Focus OR
Not willing to stop with ICU care – the CareFirst/Delmarva 100K Lives and Beyond Collaborative will also focus on reducing surgical complications.  OR teams attending the October 3rd event heard about national effort to curb surgical complications, state of the art high reliability design and started work on the nuts and bolts “how-to” need to make eliminating preventable infections, blood clots and heart attacks in surgical patients a reality.

MPSC Emergency Care Safety Culture Collaborative
Beginning this fall the Maryland Patient Safety Center will be launching its next Safety Culture Collaborative – this time in the Emergency Department.    Offered in partnership with the Maryland Chapters of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Emergency Nurses Association this collaborative will focus on getting critical care to the critically ill quickly, and ensuring that all patient flow and hand-offs occur smoothly.

Rapid Response Team Learning Action Network
The Delmarva Foundation is enrolling a small number of hospital teams in its new Robert Wood Johnson Foundation RWJF sponsoring Rapid Response Team Learning Action Network.   Working as partners with the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative (PRHI), Ohio KePRO and the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) over 40 hospitals in MD, DC, PA and OH will rapidly implement this life saving innovation in healthcare delivery.
